Term 3 - Scratch Programming Project

IMPORTANT! Scratch Project and final reflection at the bottom of the page

Statement of Inquiry

Computational Creation enables me to be creative

Introduction

In term 3 we will be working on Scratch programming. This is creative computing and enables us to explore various sprites and commands in Scratch.

Global Context
ATL Skills
Information literacy.
I will be using my research skills in technology and understanding of  programming codes and controls in the scratch program by MIT. I will be using the scratch program's help from the pull down menu, as well watching other videos on scratch programming codes in order to enable me to complete the program and create my design. The 'Storyboard That' website should enable me to create online story boards for my design ideas.

Communication
I am going to create a scratch project that enables viewers to become aware about the severe conditions labourers have to cope with. I hope that this cruel act will be taken care of, and in order for that to become a reality, I must spread awareness via Facebook, Instagram, Email, Blogger and even scratch itself.

Fairness and Development:
I have met this statement as my scratch project is spreading awareness about problems such as unfairness in  labourers. Fairness and development means that when an idea is unfair, one will do their best to develop on this idea and improve such circumstances. I will do so.

About Me
My first project:

My reflection:
I like parkour, monsters and Cheetos, which are all part of my Scratch presentation. I had fun making my project and am happy about it. Here my Sprite talks about what he loves, and in the end, you get eaten! Please feel free to watch, thanks!

Scratch Project Term 3:
Introduction:

For this term I have been asked to create a story using Scratch programming. The story should eitehr create either environmental issue, Social issue or something that interests me.
IT reflection:

Many labourers in the UAE have to work together to finish a large amount of building within a set time. They aren’t accompanied with many resources. They lack air conditioning, food, water and transport. No human should live in these conditions. They should be provided with the correct amount of resources like food and water.
Many labourers also share rooms in a group. They live in the hot and dry desert and do  not have transport so they have to walk to their destination. They spend the whole day in the scorching sun, and some do not have a bottle of water. They do not get paid enough money, and many are in Dubai to fund their families. Most workers get maid no more than 800-900DHS a month, which is nothing compared to what other people earn.
I want to raise awareness about this issue, but I also want the wealthier people of Dubai to help out too.
I aim to create a slideshow presentation project on Scratch pointing out the conditions these workers have to suffer with. I would like to make it very interactive and user friendly, and I want it to captivate the audience watching. I hope I will bet featured from Dubai Municipality in order to raise my concern. Thank you and I hope that my presentation will raise awareness.

Here is my reflection of the MIT programming software, Scratch.

Scratch is a programming software designed for younger students. It is free and easy to use. It benefits by giving students the chance to explore the world of programming. Scratch to me was very fun and easy to use and I hope we will be using more programmes like Scratch in the future.
Scratch comes with little characters called Sprites, which you can control. You can design your own sprite, or choose from the wide range of available sprites. In my Digital Design lesson, I made a zoo like page, with lots of sprites, and made 2 do a dance routine controlled by my mouse cursor.
I feel that I really like using Scratch and that it is really entertaining for me.

In the second part of the lesson, we created our very own MIT Scratch accounts! I called mine AnimalDancer, as I made my animals dance the first time I used Scratch! I recommend using Scratch as first time programmers and coders, as it is very fun and easy to understand!
I think that I had a great time using Scratch and I hope to be able to use this coding software again!

MY SECOND SCRATCH:

SECOND STORYBOARD:

MY FIRST STORYBOARD:

EVALUATION OF THE SECOND STORYBOARD: This storyboard is about the excessive sightings of community poop. I think this is a big issue in most dog friendly areas in Dubai, as owners tend to be irresponsible and leave their dog's mess. I want to be able to spread awareness and stop this from becoming a bigger issue than it already is! This is also a social cause.

FIRST EVALUATION:

This is my Scratch Awareness project story-board. I aim to spread awareness about the extremely unimaginable conditions of the labor camps based in Dubai.  They provide no proper shelter, food or water and sometimes even clothing to the poor labourers. It is a social cause. I will do this storyboard as it is more of a big issue
.

CHOSEN STORYBOARD:
I am going to choose my first idea of the scratch project. This storyboard is based on the issue: 'Conditions of Labour Camps'. I would like to raise awareness on this project as it is becoming a larger and larger issue in the modern world as labourers are not being treated with the facilities and resources they need to have. My storyboard clearly describes this issue and I would like it to be improved on or changed as these conditions labourers have to deal with now are not healthy nor acceptable. I am very upset already as no one has decided to help improve lives of labourers. If things do not change now, life will get tougher and tougher. I chose this issue as I feel it is a larger problem, and if more people know about it, it will become more in control. My second storyboard: Dog poop in communities is also a big issue, but can be handled more easily and does not effect the lives of others hugely.

MY FINAL PROJECT:

FINAL REFLECTION
This is my MYP Digital Design class scratch project. I aim to showcase my coding abilities through the art of the coding program "Scratch".

I have included all of the actions mentioned by my lovely teacher Ms. Veena, and I have worked my very hardest and put in my best efforts in order to do so and meet the crietrion.

I have included one basic sprite which is the orange cat, and one of my own spirtes which is a girl dancer whom changes costume on command (hitting the spacebar)! I have also made my scratch think to himeself four times, and speak more than 30 times! My storyline is that the orange cat sprite will tour the girl (whom is played by the viewer) around a labour camp in Dubai, and the girl will realize how important it is to have a healthy lifestyle, and that the labourers that build all day come home to such poort condidtions.

The aim of my story is to raise awareness about the condidtions that laboruers have to suffer in and how most of them work for their families to have education, and I hope to make a change in the world via Scratch and newsspreading by my viewers.

In my scratch, I have also included background music in one of the scenes and I have made my sprite change color 5 times! I think that my project is very informative and viewer captivating. I specify to educate young adults and children from the ages 8-16 as my interactive performance is a very fun, enhancing  and creative way of educating children. I have also informed viewers different about the ways of spreading the terrible news of such harsh conditions around, as I think the that the more viewers tell their friends and family about this cause, the more impact it will create on our society.

There are many mor especial features on my MYP Scratch project, but you need to visit it and find out what they are! Please help out hundreds and thousands of lives globally, and help make an impact on what we now call society by watching my scratch. I have changed up the storyboard slightly, but I feel the audience will become much more intreged and informed if I use this layout. My scratch is important to society as many people need to be informed about this serious cause.

NOTE:
-YOU CAN MAKE THE DANCER GIRL CHANGE MOVES! JUST PRESS THE SPACEBAR, IT WILL NOT AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECT

-PRESS THE GREEN FLAG TO START THE SCRATCH

Thank you,
Jasmine

Conclusion:
In this fun unit, I have developed many skills. I have learned how to code and develop original ideas from the programming unit, Scratch. I have learned how to control and improve other's designs and I had fun doing that.

Final Reflection

Francesca and I's project for the tech fair is the Power of Air Vacuums. We would love to teach other students about this topic and hopefully, it will be useful for students.

The skills that I have spaced out enthusiastically (skills relate to the digital design class 2016) are very important in every day life. I have been a very enthusiastic inquirer and a very disciplined learner. These skills are important in everyday life as knowing and learning in life are very important.

I was very productive and disciplined with my time as me and my wonderful partner set up meeting dates in order to work on and complete the project. I feel that I have been very productive.

I feel as I have successfully met the criteria as I have been very weary of the criteria. I feel that I have met my target successfully.

My group that I am in includes my lovely partner , Francesca. Together we have worked together in order to create a thrilling project for the 2016 tech fair. Francesca and I have been friends for a lonfg time and have worked well and have been very cooperative in our learning.

Francesca and I have overcomes our dilemmas by figuring out an appropriate solution. We have successfully worked out solutions to our problems resulting in a great project.

If we were to get into the tech fair, Francesca and I would be thrilled. We would explain our project very well to newbies on our topic and we would answer any quires.
Thank you.

Poster about CD drives

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_disc_drive

My reflection about how the Pillars of the UAE national agenda relate to my Tech Fair project.

This is the reason to how my digital design subject's event called the Tech Fair relates to the Pillars of the National agenda of the United Arab Emirates.

Here is my reason as to how my tech fair project can relate to one of the 6 pillars of the United Arab Emirates.
I have chosen the pillar: First-Rate Education system. I chose the First-Rate education system pillar due to how my partner and best friend Francesca from 7BB explain the power of air vacuums. The pillar: First-Rate Education Systems means that the United Arab Emirates offer high class education systems to all students studying across the United Arab Emirates no matter what school. Francesca and I's plan for our tech fair project is to spread awareness about the power of air vacuums throughout our prepared presentations. Our presentational devices include a hand made race track, a wall climbing car, posters and more! There will also be a fun and exiting challenge waiting for any daredevils to try and beat!
By informing other pupils at Emirates International School Meadows about what air vacuums are capable of, I hope to be able to motivate others to try and invent their own personal creations which use the power of air vacuums as n important role in the design. I find this particular topic very interesting and am quite surprised about how many students do not even know what an air vacuum is! Francesca and I hope to change this information by informing students in a fun and exiting way which both benefits on ourselves and other people. I feel that if more people in the United Arab Emirates will be able to know about the power of air vacuums, the city of Dubai and the country of The United Arab Emirates will become a more technically advanced society. Many will be able to put all their knowledge of air vacuums to use and create inventions which help the society thrive!

Reflection

To my dearest fans,

Here is what I have accomplished so far for my exiting tech fair project with my dearest partner who has many skills in the following design technology topic and area.
I believe that this exiting and skill incorporated design technology project, has both valued on my partner and I's general knowledge of the digital design world.
The project has been a very rare opportunity to let my digital skills shine and take over my creativity, but at the same time, it provides me with the opportunity to keep all my digital skills controlled by creating an amazing project deadline. This deadline is a perfect date as it allows me and my incredible and dearest partner shine but it allows us to have an excellent amount of time to complete our wonderful project.

First, we decided what we wanted to make for our wonderful tech fair project: a wonderful action cam car.
Then, we mad it using a wall climbing car, camera and electrical tape.
We then made a track andI printed posters.

gadget

The pros and cons:

Pros: The climbing car can view places no human can go (such as up walls in unreachable cracks)
The climbing car when on land mode, is silent, therefore will not be seen easily.
The climbing car can carry a camera and the camera has a watch to view.

Cons:
-When on wall mode, the car is noisy,
It cannot carry a camera on wall mode

Multipurpose climbing car!

++
The device is going to be developed by myself. It uses a toy wall climbing car which has a toy helicopter attatched to the top using cables, the helicopter must be strong enough to carry the car too, and there is going to be a slot to atatch a smartphone or camera so when you press record, the phone or camera will record wherever the car and helicopter go. The helicopter will make the car fly if needed. It is remote controlled! There will also be a latch so you can detach! the helicopter from the car. I will also try to link the camera to a laptop screen for easy viewing.

This can be used as a toy or for more serious purposes such as security checking for theifs/intruders or a camera that goes to dangerous areas.
